Stained Glass Restoration in the Prairie Style When
we moved into our 1911 home, some of the stained glass windows were
severely buckled due to the settling of the house. Once the walls were
straightened, I removed the windows, took apart and cleaned the glass
pieces, and reassembled them with new lead canes. Four windows were
restored and a new one made for the front door in the same style. A
few of the broken pieces were replaced by old glass scoured from local
glass shops. I learned that new glass did not have the same qualities
and were a poor substitute. Eventually I hope to make matching stained
glass panels for the tops of the windows in the family room. There are
13 (gulp) windows in that room. |
